Riverhead, NY — The Late Knight Warriors (LKW), a Long Island-based nonprofit community group known for its unique blend of service, social connection, and fun, is thrilled to announce its participation in the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race on Saturday, August 9, 2025 (Rain date: August 10) at the Peconic Riverfront in Downtown Riverhead. Check-in begins at 9:00 AM, with races kicking off at 11:00 AM.
This year, LKW will compete with their handcrafted cardboard creation, “The Late Knight Falkor”—a whimsical tribute to the Luck Dragon from The NeverEnding Story. Members have come together to design, build, and paint the boat, showcasing not only their creativity but also the collaborative spirit that defines the Late Knight Warriors.
The boat will be captained by Jay, LKW’s Director of Member Services and a founding member. He’ll be cheered on by a spirited crew of supporters—many decked out in LKW merchandise—who contributed to the boat’s build and continue to fuel the group’s growing presence across Long Island.
“This race is more than just a fun challenge,” said LKW Vice President Laura Gottfried. “It’s a chance for our members to bond, show off our teamwork, and introduce our community to the heart of what we do—bringing people together and giving back.”
LKW encourages attendees to say hello to members wearing LKW gear, learn more about the group’s mission, and explore ways to get involved. The organization is always seeking new members, local partners, and meaningful ways to support the community through events and outreach.
