Overview

The Late Knight Warriors Boat Race Committee is responsible for planning, designing, building, and executing our participation in the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race.

This committee brings our presence to life at one of our most visible community events of the year—where creativity, teamwork, and community engagement come together on the water.

  • Location: Peconic Riverfront – Downtown Riverhead

At the center of our participation is the Late Knight Warriors cardboard boat, which must be designed and built to reflect our energy, mission, and creativity.

To create a high-impact, memorable presence at the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race that represents Late Knight Warriors with pride—while strengthening community ties, increasing visibility, and delivering a fun, engaging experience for both members and the public.

Committee Structure & Roles

Leads the committee and oversees all operations.

  • Ensure timelines, milestones, and deadlines are met
  • Align all efforts with LKW mission, values, and goals
  • Lead and facilitate committee meetings
  • Oversee all committee managers to ensure accountability and execution
  • Gather estimates for materials and event-related costs and coordinate budget approvals with the board
  • Maintain budget compliance and transparency (track expenses, receipts, and spending)

Manages organization, documentation, and administrative coordination.

  • Schedule meetings and build dates (Director + at least one board member present)
  • Create meeting agendas
  • Record and distribute meeting minutes
  • Handle event applications and follow-ups
  • Maintain organized records for the committee

Leads all aspects of boat construction and design.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess material and build requirements
  • Review and evaluate design ideas for structural feasibility
  • Oversee all build days and construction efforts
  • Ensure boat safety, stability, and race readiness
  • Participate hands-on in the build process

Leads fundraising and resource acquisition efforts.

  • Secure funding for materials, fees, and logistics
  • Source donated materials, build space, storage, and transportation support
  • Coordinate donations for build days (food, supplies, etc.)
  • Identify storage solutions for boat and materials

Leads content capture and event visibility.

  • Capture photo and video during builds and race day
  • Go live during key moments
  • Assist the Marketing Director on social content (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook) as needed
  • Support press outreach and media follow-ups
  • Engage local organizations (chambers, community pages, etc.) for coverage

Leads on-site engagement and relationship building at the event.

  • If applicable, manage LKW table presence at the event
  • Recruit participants and encourage community involvement
  • Engage attendees throughout the event
  • Introduce LKW to community leaders, DJs, media, and officials
  • Build relationships that strengthen organizational visibility

Support the committee in various ways based on skills and availability.

  • Assist with boat build days and logistics
  • Support event-day execution
  • Attend and cheer on the team at the race
  • Contribute without holding a leadership role
