The Bay Shore community joined the Berry family at a “Cocktails For a Cause” fundraiser for their 1-year-old son Jackson’s battle against leukemia last Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Tap Room from 6 to 9 p.m., in Bay Shore.

The event was hosted by local nonprofit group, the Late Knight Warriors, that aim to give a helping hand to those in need.

Jackson’s journey hasn’t been easy, but he’s been such a strong kid to bravely face every challenge. Going in and out of the hospital is not the life little boy like Jackson should have, yet every worry just slides off him like water off a duck’s back.

After finishing his remaining treatment at Stony Brook, Jackson will be going to Columbia University for a bone-marrow transplant. Even with a bone-marrow transplant on the horizon and other potential hurdles, Jackson’s constant smile through this hardship is a message that even in dark times, there can be levity.

This constant battle against leukemia has been a lot to grapple with for his parents, Shaun and Jenna Berry. Shaun emphasized that it’s “all about getting the word out.” Fighting alone when dealing with such high stakes is difficult, so any form of support can go a long way.

Shaun then continued that “if everyone on Long Island could donate a dollar, the amount of money we could raise would be substantial.”

This fundraiser will go a long way in helping Jackson with his doctor visits, hospital stays, and eventual transplant that he will need in the future.

The event had a large coalition of supporters, such as Bulovas Restoration Inc., which served as the event sponsor. A major part of the event was the Chinese auction, which featured enticing items for attendees to bid on.

The auction could not have been possible without the donations of the LI Ducks, RPM Raceway, Sayville Running Club, Adventureland, New York Islanders, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Cyclones, The Adventure Park, Larson’s Christmas Trees, Davis Park Harbor Store, Carleton Clothing, Casino Bar and Café, Surfside, Spiderbite Brewing Co., Queens Baseball Convention and Clare Rose.

A 50/50 raffle was also held for attendees as well. These organizations gave gift cards, hockey tickets, a surfboard, gift baskets, and many other generous donations. N-Kind support was also given by Minuteman Press of East Northport, The Rustic Workshop, and Tap Room of Bay Shore. Laura Gottfried, vice president of the Late Knights Warriors, shared that they “are so grateful for the incredible outpouring of support from local businesses and our community.”

With an open bar, entree buffet, 50/50 raffle, and a Chinese auction, the “Cocktails For a Cause” was a full night of events for all attendees.
